The Charter for Compassion Wins a 2015 Out of the Box Prize
In October of 2015 the Community Toolbox revealed the Charter for Compassion to be one of two winners for its Out of the Box Award.
The Community Tool Box is a service of the Work Group for Community Health and Development at the University of Kansas. They are self-described on their website as an "online resource for those working to build healthier communities and bring about social change." The tool box offers thousands of pages of tips and tools for taking action in communities. One of the ways they support community organizations is through The Out of the Box Award, which the Charter for Compassion was among the receipients of in 2015.
The second-place prize includes a monetary gift of $3,000.
Marilyn Turkovich, director of the Charter for Compassion International, said that the money would go directly to support the Charter's work to provide support and resources for communities interested in adopting the Charter. "We continue to receive inquiries daily from new communities that are looking to begin or expand their efforts to make the Golden Rule the foundation of their neighborhoods and institutions. This award will help us in that work."

The Community Tool Box award announcement describes the Charter for Compassions’ work in this way:
The Charter for Compassion International seeks to make compassionate action 'go viral' in the hearts and minds of communities globally by working with them to address their most pressing needs. The Charter views compassion as a verb, moving beyond empathy to identify problems and act on solutions. In November 2014, they launched the Charter Tool Box after a 9‐month process engaging 150 of their grassroots community organizers to learn what they needed in order to create viable action plans that would bring about pronounced change."
Nutre-Perú, which works in Peru to empower women and fight malnutrition in children, received the first-place award. The Charter is honored to be recognized in this way, alongside Nutre-Perú, by the Community Tool Box.
